Impact Plastics in Erwin announced the company is expanding and creating jobs.

Erwin plant adding 83 new jobs over next three years

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam made a stop in the Tri-Cities region today for a bit of good economic news.

Impact Plastics President Jerry O'Connor announced that his business is making a $1.3 Million dollar investment, which will bring 83 new jobs to the Erwin plant over the next three years.

O'Connor told Haslam the expansion is due in large part to new contracts with automotive companies.

In recent years, Tennessee has opened a Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, and a Nissan plant in Smyrna.

"Automotive, when you add jobs there," says Haslam, "all of the supplier parts tend to come and gather around them, so automotive is one of the reasons Tennessee led the Southeast last year in new manufacturing jobs created."

Impact Plastics currently has 37 full-time employees, meaning this expansion will more than triple their workforce.

620,000 acres were set aside for the Cherokee Naional Forest by the federal government and were soon supplanted with the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Since then, Unicoi County has become the secret of every trail hiker, camper and family seeking adveture.

The location along the most verdant and wild sections of our national natural lands allow us to leave work at the end of the day and seek that big trout in the fly stream, buck in the mountains or hole in one at the course. Our natural lands are a vacation within minutes. Weekends become cherished time close to home.
